A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT APPROPRIATING MONEY FROM THE RESOURCE INDEMNITY TRUST FUND, AFTER THE TRUST FUND BALANCE REACHES $100 MILLION, TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY FOR PURCHASING FEDERAL DEBT OBLIGATION SECURITIES THAT MATURE IN JUNE 2017 TO PARTIALLY FUND THE LONG-TERM WATER TREATMENT TRUST FOR THE FORMER ZORTMAN AND LANDUSKY MINES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:



     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Appropriation. The amount of $540,000 is appropriated from the resource indemnity trust fund to the department of environmental quality during the 2003 biennium for purchasing federal debt obligation securities that mature in June 2017 to partially fund the long-term water treatment trust established in the consent decree entered by the federal district court for the district of Montana for the former Zortman and Landusky mines. This appropriation is from tax payments made pursuant to 15-38-104 that are deposited in the resource indemnity trust fund after the balance in the fund reaches $100 million.



     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2001.
