A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT ESTABLISHING FEES FOR CERTAIN CANDIDATES AND POLITICAL COMMITTEES FILING CERTIFICATIONS WITH THE COMMISSIONER OF POLITICAL PRACTICES; ESTABLISHING ANNUAL FEES FOR POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES AND COMMITTEES OF POLITICAL PARTY ORGANIZATIONS FILING ANNUAL REPORTS; DEPOSITING REVENUE FROM FEES IN THE STATE'S GENERAL FUND; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
NEW SECTION. Section 1. Fees. (1) Each candidate for public office, with the exception of candidates for the office of school district trustee and candidates for offices listed in 13-37-206, shall pay to the office of the commissioner a filing fee of $15. The payment must accompany the certification required by 13-37-201.
(2) Each political committee, with the exception of a political committee organized to support or oppose a school district issue and political committees listed in 13-37-206, shall pay to the office of the commissioner a filing fee of $15. The payment must accompany the certification required by 13-37-201.
(3) In addition to the fees required by subsections (1) and (2), each political action committee, as defined by the rules of the commissioner, and each committee of a political party organization, as defined in 13-37-216, shall pay to the office of the commissioner an annual filing fee of $15. The payment must accompany the postgeneral election report or the report required by 13-37-226(5)(c).
(4) Filing fees described in subsections (1) through (3) must be deposited in the general fund.
NEW SECTION. Section 2. Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 13, chapter 37, part 2, and the provisions of Title 13, chapter 37, part 2, apply to [section 1].
NEW SECTION. Section 3. Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2003.
