A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT REQUIRING THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO COMPILE FOR EACH CALENDAR YEAR A REPORT CONTAINING THE NUMBER OF ALCOHOL-RELATED VEHICLE ACCIDENTS OCCURRING IN THE STATE IN WHICH THE DRIVER OF AT LEAST ONE VEHICLE WAS CONVICTED OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OR WITH AN EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL CONTENT; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE."

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 1.  Annual report of alcohol-related vehicle accidents when driver convicted of driving under influence or with excessive alcohol content. The department shall compile for each calendar year a report containing the number of vehicle accidents occurring in the state in which the consumption of alcohol was a cause of the accident and the driver of at least one vehicle was convicted under 61-8-401, 61-8-406, or 61-8-410. The department shall determine and the report must state the specific ways in which alcohol was the cause of each vehicle accident. The report must be made available to the public in electronic and printed form.

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 2.  Report for calendar year 2003. The department of justice shall compile a report required by [section 1] covering the calendar year 2003 and make electronic and printed copies available to the public within 30 days after [the effective date of this act].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 3.  Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an integral part of Title 61, chapter 8, part 4, and the provisions of Title 61 apply to [section 1].

 

     NEW SECTION.  Section 4.  Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
