A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: "AN ACT EXPANDING THE USE OF THE MONTANA EDUCATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK SERVICES TO PRIVATE BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS IN COMMUNITIES NOT SERVED BY PRIVATE SECTOR VIDEO TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES; AND AMENDING SECTION 20-32-101, MCA."
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
Section 1. Section 20-32-101, MCA, is amended to read:
"20-32-101. Purpose -- definition. (1) The purpose of this part is to establish a Montana educational telecommunications network.
(2) For the purposes of this part, "network" means the Montana educational telecommunications network (METNET).
(3) The aims of the network are to provide:
(a) instructional and educational coursework and materials through telecommunications delivery to students in kindergarten through 12th grade in the Montana public school system;
(b) instructional and educational coursework and materials through telecommunications delivery to students enrolled in units of the Montana university system and the community colleges;
(c) instructional and professional development or other appropriate inservice training for teachers in the schools of
the state; and
(d) telecommunications capabilities to agencies, subdivisions of state government, and public libraries in order to improve their ability to perform their responsibilities and duties; and
(e) interactive video services to a private business or an individual if there are no interactive video services available from the private sector in a community in which the services are requested. The department of administration shall discontinue services to a private business or individual if interactive video services become available from the private sector in the community in which the services were requested."
