A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA PROVIDING FOR AN INTERIM LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO STUDY DISABILITY BENEFITS FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES AND TO REPORT ITS FINDINGS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND ANY IMPLEMENTING LEGISLATION TO THE 57TH LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, public employee disability benefits are complex in structure, funding, and application; and
WHEREAS, disability benefits have been made a subsystem within the public employee retirement systems; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature should consider alternative approaches to providing disability coverage; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to have a discussion on disability that will involve all interested parties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:
That the Legislative Council shall direct an appropriate interim committee to:
(1) examine the disability benefits currently available to state employees;
(2) consider options for structuring and funding disability benefits for state employees in a manner that is separate and apart from the public employee retirement systems; and
(3) develop recommendations to provide for comparable disability benefits for all state employees.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the interim committee shall report its findings, recommendations, and any implementing legislation to the 57th Legislature.
